Through this project it has been an enriching experience. From the
start when I chose to go off the beaten path to serve this part of the
community, I knew being the leader of HCI’s first 7 man group I
had my work cut out for me. Through this I have changed my
perspective of the world, brought into the world of social work has
let me realise how privileged I am and more willing to sow into
someone else’s. I learnt that this part of society is not receiving
enough attention and the public just label them even before they
have a chance to prove themselves. That is why I am passionate
about this cause. I have learnt to stop, think before proceeding as
plans change often and the only plan that remains is the plan to
adapt.

This project has been an extremely enriching one. Compared to my
previous year’s project, Project Hear Me Out, where I had the chance
to work with people who were hearing impaired, I feel that
interacting with boys at risk is far more meaningful. Not only
are they close to our age, making them easy to relate to, they are
also extremely lively and fun to work with. Before the first
meeting with them, I was doubtful whether the kids would open up
to us. However, they turned out to be very easygoing and cheerful;
completely opposite of what I thought them to be. I personally feel
that they have much more potential to grow and that they deserve
much better, hence I hope that they will continue to be supported
by organisations such as Boys Town and the rest of society.

This project has been an adventurous ride for me. Going
to Boys Town, giving tuition to strangers and
interviewing ex-convicts have been new experiences.
There was also lots to learn in this amazing journey, I
learnt the sense of responsibility, to be more empathetic
to those who are less fortunate than us. It has taught me
to step out of my comfort zone, feel privileged and
fortunate to have happy family and a good education. I
had many other commitments such as HSC, and this
has taught me to manage my time well and prioritise
my commitments, also the importance of sacrifice to
succeed.

This project has been a valuable learning experience for me.
I have become aware that there are groups of people that are
unfairly labelled by society, and have found a better
perspective to viewing them. Not only which, throughout
this year, I have honed my communication skills through
interacting with various groups of people, including the
staff and boys at Boys Town, as well as members from
other organizations that can play a part in supporting the
cause. I have also gained key experience in taking a step
forward and proactively planning for the project, as it is a
large undertaking, and much is needed to be done to
ensure the success of this project.

Aw Hang Bin

This project has been an eye-opening experience for me.
Before interacting with the boys, I thought that the boys
were going to hostile and unfriendly. However, through
the interactive sessions, I got to know more about the
boys, and I realised that these boys are actually very
friendly and sociable, and brilliant.
 Through this project, after volunteering with these
youths, I am grateful for having a very fortunate life
that everyone deserves to have, that these boys should be
given the chance to have. I only wish that these boys will
be able to succeed and pursue their dreams.

Project Revival is like no other, a meaningful and eye-opening
experience for me. It is the first time I had trouble juggling between
my project, studies and my CCA, and I have definitely learnt a lot
from this. I, overestimated myself a few times, believing that I
would have time to do my project, which there was not. This allowed

me to understand the importance of time-management and pre-
planning. Most importantly, seeing children and adults from

sensitive and less fortunate backgrounds, I felt that we were very
blessed and that we should cherish it, instead of taking it for
granted. My eyes were opened to real world, where I was introduced
to the harsh reality of labelling. This has inspired us, Project
Revival, to create our awareness campaign, #lifewithoutlabels, to
“banish” this harsh reality and to revive a better place for those who
we work with.

Calvin Chua

Project Revival’s two beneficiaries has allowed me to
understand better and learn more about the needs and
importance of second chances and reintegration. I have
also learnt important communication skills and to be
sensitive to others who come from not-so-fortunate
backgrounds. The interview sessions gave me a deeper
insight to the needs of the boys and the SACA clients,
and I am sure it will reach out to the public this way as
well. I think that Project Revival has brought about an
impactful and meaningful time for both the boys and
the clients, and hope that it will continue to do so
